The SMART Infectious Disease Interdisciplinary Research Group (ID IRG) is a joint research program that unites MIT faculty members with Singaporean investigators from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD), and A*STAR institutes to focus on major infectious diseases of relevance to Singapore: dengue, malaria, and bacterial infection. Infectious diseases continue to be major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Furthermore, we have witnessed a re-emergence of diseases previously thought to be controlled (e.g., malaria), and the emergence of drug-resistant pathogens on a worldwide scale. Thus, new threats from both existing and emerging diseases motivate the ID IRG. Read more..
